USED TV
Founded 21 mars 2005 by S. Tunedal
We are only watching TV on fridays and there's one thing which surprised me
during these two months of reduced watching:
When I tell others about the limited watching, some of them react as if I
was a threat, a serious threat to them.
"No television? Really?" (The person is thinking: He's gone mad!)
"We are watching on fridays," says I.
"Fridays?" (Is he also eating man flesh!?!)
"Yes, fridays."
"But fridays....., television stinks on fridays???"
"Is that so?” I wonder.
"Yes, television on fridays is crap!"
"I see, yes this could very well be true."
"Tuesdays are even worse."
"Right. What's television like on mondays?” I ask him.
Silence. (Help!! This madman is attempting to take television away from me!!)

Sometimes television can provide you with knowledge
Here follows an interview with Tunedal on the subject of television.
Question (Q)
What is that you do when you are watching television?
Answer (A)
You sit and watch. Sometimes you listen. There are some who eat while watching.
Q
What is the product of the watching?
A
Sometimes you have gained knowledge. Also sometimes you may count it as an
experience, like when you watch together with someone and meanwhile you discover
that you like the person better. Sometimes, I said.

Casablanca. A movie to watch together with someone you like.
Q
Is watching television like taking someone to a movie?
A
Absolutely not.
Q
Is watching television like reading a book?
A
Oh no.
Q
Ok. But, what is it like?
A
Something like this: Sit down in a room together with a person who is talking
constantly while showing you electronic pictures to music.
Q
I see. Are there any negative effects from watching television?
A
It depends on what you consider to be a great life. What would you think this
would be? Do you think that immobility is good? If immobility is what you are
looking for, then television is excellent and absolutely positive.
Q
No, I want to move around. What do you mean?
A
Ok. You don't move much while watching television. The idea with television is
that you get close to the set where you can see it. The set is positioned at one
spot and you remain positioned on another spot close to it.
Q
This doesn't sound to good. But isn't television a company for many?
A
This is correct. Television has given us an excuse not to visit eachother as
much as we used to. They watch television. Nowadays people are not that lonely,
right?
Q
Well. Now television is educational. Children learn how to read from watching
it. How about that?
A
It's good that children learn this. Of course. But if parents spent more time
with their kids they could teach them about life. This would be something.
Wouldn't you prefer to teach your kids yourself rather than leaving this task to
television?
Q
Possibly. Television is priceless when something has happened, like a
catastrophy. You do need the news, right? You're watching the news?
A
There are other ways. Radio is one. I personally like the radio because I can
move around and my eyes are available to me.

The crocodile hunter.
Is it really necessary?
Q
Nature shows? This is educational and they don't do well on radio, ha ha!
A
I agree with you, but don't you think that the nature shows are becoming more of
a "sensation" type show? This australian guy, for instance, who is moving
crocodiles from one place to the next? You wonder why he doesn't use a crane or
something? Is it really necessary to bring the crocodile by hand? Or when the
show is about some dog who is having surgery to cure him of hernia? Is this
really what we want to know about? I don't think so.
Q
I love to watch a good comedy! You do like to laugh, don't you?

Monthy Python's Parrot Sketch
A
Yes I do very much. The best comedies will be available on DVD. Buy it and watch
it when it suits your schedule. There are also nature shows on DVD. Good ones.
Q
Buying all these DVD:s will cost you. What about those who can't afford it?
A
Think about what you really want to do with your free time? I am sure, very sure
that the motionless time you spend with television is costing you money. It is
actually stopping you. Television is like a red light for progress. It keeps you
from moving. It keeps your from creating.
Q
There's usually a good movie on one of the channels. You don't want me to watch
movies?
A
Absolutely. And I consider movies to be a fantastic art form. But don´t you
prefer them without the commercial breaks? Or at a time which suits you? There
are DVD:s and there are movie theatres for you. How often have you watched a
movie on your television only because "there´s a movie on television tonight?"
And maybe when the movie is over at 00.30 your woman is in bed sleeping
and you watched the whole thing just to find out that the movie ended exactly
as you said it would end? .You watched a lame movie when you could have taken
your woman for a long walk and you could have gone to sleep together. Could you
claim that there is satisfaction in dragging yourself to bed alone after a
boring night with television? Does this make you feel good?

Sports on television. A life?
Q
Don't tell me that you miss out on sports?
A
I believe that sports on television could be an excuse for not doing anything.
What would you think of a guy who was sitting in a chair for hours doing nothing?
Lazy? Dead? Does this change just because you put a television set in front of
him? Does this really make him any better? The television is showing people
running up and down a field but this guy is still sitting there, isn't he? He is
not doing more just because there is some activity on the screen, is he? He is
sitting. And what has he done when the sports are over? He can tell you
about this and that that took place on the event but he has not accomplished any
of it himself. He sat there.

What do you do when you sit?
Q
What do you do when you get tired? Some time in front of the television could be
a well deserved rest.
A
My guess is that you are more tired after television. Check it out if you like.
If you really need a rest you should lie down and close your eyes for a
while.
Now you have the chance to change. You can become a free member of USED TV.
